Biology of Microplitis mediator Haliday (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) parasitizing the wheat armyworm Mythimna (Pseudaletia) sequax Franclemont (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Neotropical Entomology
Foerster,Luís A.; Doetzer,Augusta K..
The larval endoparasitoid Microplitis mediator Haliday is described for the first time in the Neotropical Region, parasitizing the wheat armyworm Mythimna (Pseudaletia) sequax Franclemont. Females successfully parasitized the four first instars of the host, with a significant preference for the second and third, in relation to either the first or fourth instars. No parasitoids emerged from caterpillars parasitized in the fifth and sixth instars. Development of M. mediator was determined at four constant temperatures between 15°C and 30°C. The duration of the egg-larval stages varied from 32.3 days at 15°C to 8.0 days at 30°C. The pupal stage lasted 24.3 and 5.1 days at 15°C and 30°C, respectively. Development of the parasitoid from oviposition to adult...

Cardinal temperatures for the leaf development of Corymbia citriodora and Eucalyptus urophylla seedlings PAB
Freitas,Cleverson Henrique de; Martins,Fabrina Bolzan; Abreu,Marcel Carvalho.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to estimate cardinal temperatures and phyllochron for the leaf development of the eucalyptus species Corymbia citriodora and Eucalyptus urophylla, in the seedling phase. A field experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, in a 2x11 factorial arrangement, with the two eucalyptus species, 11 sowing dates, and five replicates, in the municipality of Itajubá, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The cardinal temperatures - base, optimum, and maximum - for leaf development were, respectively, 8.7, 17.1, and 41.3°C, for C. citriodora, and 11.5, 17.1, and 40.5°C for E. urophylla. The phyllochron of C. citriodora was 62.95°C day per leaf, and that of E. urophylla was 46.03°C day per leaf, which indicates...

Development and survival of the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae) as a function of temperature: effect on the number of generations in tropical and subtropical regions Neotropical Entomology
Marchioro,CA; Foerster,LA.
The diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.), is the most important pest of brassicaceous crops worldwide. Since temperature is the major abiotic factor influencing insect development and thermal requirements may vary among insect populations, it is important to know the effect of temperature on development and survival of a subtropical strain of P. xylostella. Development and survival of the diamondback moth was evaluated under seven constant temperatures ranging from 10°C to 35°C. Development was completed between 10°C and 32.5°C, but at 35°C all individuals died in the larval stage. Data were fitted to one linear and five nonlinear models. Considering as criteria the goodness of fit and the ability to estimate parameters of biological significance,...

Effects of temperature on growth and metabolism in a Mediterranean population of European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax ArchiMer
Person, Jeannine; Mahe, Kelig; Le Bayon, Nicolas; Le Delliou, Herve.
Growth and metabolism of juvenile European sea bass of a Western Mediterranean population were assessed at six constant temperatures (13, 16, 19, 22, 25 or 29 degreesC) in an 84-day trial. Duplicated groups of 84 fish (initial weight 80 I g) were held under O-2-concentrations close to saturation (87 mg l(-1)) and were fed to satiation. Mass gain increased as temperature increased from 13 to 25 degreesC. At 25 and 29 degreesC, growth was similar up to day 72, but a 6% decrease was observed by day 84 at 29 degreesC. Days 0-84 specific growth rates (SGR) were 0.45%,1.29% and 1.21% day(-1) at 13, 25 and 29 degreesC, respectively. The estimated temperature (7) for maximum SGR was 26 degreesC (SGR = 1.715 - 0.322T + 0.022T(2) - 4.233e(-4)T(3)). Feed intake (FI)...

Host Instar Preference of Peleteria robusta (Wiedman) (Diptera: Tachinidae) and Development in Relation to Temperature Neotropical Entomology
FOERSTER,LUÍS A.; DOETZER,AUGUSTA K..
The effect of four temperatures on the development of the larval endoparasitoid Peleteria robusta (Wiedman) as well as its preference for different instars of the host, the armyworm Mythmina(Pseudaletia) sequax Franclemont were evaluated. Females of P. robusta laid more than one egg outside the cuticle of the caterpillars, however only one parasitoid developed and pupated within the host. Females of P. robusta successfully parasitized the fourth- to sixth-instars of M. sequax, with preference for the fourth and fifth instars of the host. No parasitoids emerged from caterpillars exposed to P. robusta females between the first and third instars. The development of P. robusta to the adult stage was completed in the range between 15ºC and 30ºC, and the...

Phenological, physicochemical, and productive characteristics of 'Vênus' grapevine onto rootstocks PAB
Tecchio,Marco Antonio; Silva,Marlon Jocimar Rodrigues da; Paiva,Ana Paula Maia; Moura,Mara Fernandes; Terra,Maurilo Monteiro; Pires,Erasmo José Paioli; Leonel,Sarita.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the phenological characteristics and yield of 'Vênus' grapevine (Vitis labrusca) grafted onto different rootstocks, as well the physicochemical traits of its grapes during the 2013, 2014, and 2015 crop seasons. The evaluated rootstocks were 'IAC 766', 'IAC 572', 'IAC 313' and 'IAC 571-6'. The length of the main phenological stages of the grapevine and its thermal demands were assessed during two growing seasons and expressed as days after pruning and degree-day sum, respectively. Grapevine yield and berry physicochemical characteristics were assessed during three crop seasons. 'Vênus' phenological cycle and thermal demands, as well as the chemical characteristics of its grapes, varied with the climate...

Spatio-temporal modelling of the duration of the cotton cycle in the State Of Goiás, Brazil REA
Antonini,Jorge C. dos A.; Silva,Euzebio M. da; Griebeler,Nori P.; Sano,Edson E..
The objective of this work was to develop and validate a mathematical model to estimate the duration of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L. r. latifolium hutch) cycle in the State of Goiás, Brazil, by applying the method of growing degree-days (GD), and considering, simultaneously, its time-space variation. The model was developed as a linear combination of elevation, latitude, longitude, and Fourier series of time variation. The model parameters were adjusted by using multiple-linear regression to the observed GD accumulated with air temperature in the range of 15°C to 40°C. The minimum and maximum temperature records used to calculate the GD were obtained from 21 meteorological stations, considering data varying from 8 to 20 years of observation. The...
